Our Year 7s have been settling in beautifully since arriving three week ago. This week, a small focus group met to discuss some of the key transitional concerns that may arise at the start of the new challenge of moving to secondary school.

In our first full session, we discussed the benefits of extracurricular clubs and signing up to clubs at the Enrichment Fair, and, the burning concern on all Year 7s’ minds – friendships.

Coming up soon: The Wellbeing Team and Year 7 Transition Focus Group will be raising money for Children in Need, so keep your eyes peeled for your opportunity to get involved.

Wellbeing Focus of the Fortnight – Board Games:

A 2026 Study by University of Plymouth has been researching the links between board games and table top role-playing games and wellbeing.

Dr Atherton said: "Our research has shown they [board games] can enhance wellbeing, foster inclusion, and support learning, with strong evidence that games improve engagement and social connection for neurodivergent individuals compared to other activities.”

At Sydney Russell Secondary, we offer a range of opportunities to develop these skills:

· Board Game Club (every second break in L0.10)

· Dungeons and Dragons (See Mr Taylor, Mr Thompson or Mr Fortune)

· Warhammer Alliance (See Mr McEvoy)
