It has been a phenomenal week for the creative arts at Sydney Russell School. Monday kicked off with 8 students performing at Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, for the 10th anniversary celebration of the Music in Secondary Schools’ Trust (MiSST).
The event was hosted by Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber, attended by many celebrities (more details below!) and our students shone! They were absolutely brilliant – huge congratulations to them all!
Yesterday we saw our Year 13 musicians perform for their A Level Music exam – each producing exemplary performances which greatly impressed the examiner, whilst GCSE Art and Photography exams have demonstrated the very high standards of our Y11 students’ work.
This week we have had students in Paris for the Art/Drama trip, and today we have seen the first student Film Festival for SRS, held at the Barbican centre, with an incredible calibre of talent on display (a full report will follow next week).
As a school, we are committed to the creative arts from EYFS to Year 13, and we are very proud of our students’ creative achievements.
Mary Lou Cook once said, “Creativity is inventing, experimenting, growing, taking risks, breaking rules, making mistakes, and having fun.” These skills transfer into all areas of learning and life, enabling young people to grow and find themselves:
“You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.” – Maya Angelou
Wishing you all a good bank holiday weekend. School will also be closed on Tuesday 2nd May due to the strike, so we will see you all at normal times on Wednesday 3rd May.
